Eye-Catching Places to Visit in Andaman and Nicobar

Port Blair

The capital city serves as a gateway to and from this remote set of islands. Bordered by the lush tropical jungles, it is a thriving community of Bengalis, Tamils, Telugus, Nicobarese, and Burmese. With an intriguing history that can be captured through the heritage ruins of Cellular Jail and untouched beauty ready to be discovered, it is surely a place worth stopping for. A vacation that is both mystery and magic is what awaits you here. The Marina Park Complex, the Cellular Jail Sound and Light Show, Ross Island, Corbyn's Cove Beach, Samudrika Museum, and the British relic Cellular Jail continue to attract visitors with the tale of mysteries.

Havelock Island

Renowned for its scenic beauty, Havelock is one of the most popular tourist spots in the region. Blessed with lush flora, pristine white sands and crystal clear waters, Havelock has some of the most exquisite resorts and spas catering to the traveller's needs. One of the largest islands in the archipelago, it is unparalleled in terms of its beauty and experiences. Another must-have experience is to go snorkelling in the waters, sneaking in on the plethora of sea animals and underground treasures. It is said to be a life-changing experience to be under the waters and witness underwater life first-hand. There are many professional diving sites where you can hire experts to help you with the experience.

Radhanagar Beach

Titled as one of Asia’s best beaches, its azure blue waters and powdered white sands justify the same. Its 2-kilometre-long coastlines of infinite white grains make it a popular tourist destination in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Once you have truly soaked in the beauty of the beach, there are numerous food stalls by local merchants offering savoury seafood. While people spend hours simply reclining at this gorgeous wonderland, you can reserve beach mattresses, parasols, and umbrellas. The exquisite beauty of the Radhanagar Beach is enhanced by its ideal location among the primaeval woods.

Ross Island

Now known as Netaji Subhash Bose Island, it is very close to Port Blair. The island was once the British head post before they relocated to Port Blair in 1941 after an earthquake. Comparatively deserted, it was once a flourishing space with a market, a church, businesses, a bakery, a water treatment plant, a tennis court, a printing press, a secretariat, a hospital, a cemetery, and other key institutions. You can see glimpses of the old structure even today while most of it has vanished. However, the Indian Navy had successfully rebuilt some old structures, such as local businesses and bakeries, to give visitors a taste of a bygone period. In addition to souvenirs, these businesses sell a variety of other items.

Neil Island

Blessed with some of the most pristine beaches, Neil is also one of the tourist's favourites. It is separated from Ross Island and Havelock Island by a large body of water, therefore many make a day excursion to Neill Island. Small in size, the beach can be discovered on foot, there is a lot of vegetation on this part of the island. The island's three sandy beaches, Bharatpur Beach, Sitapur Beach, and Lakshmanpur Beach, are perhaps its most charming characteristic. The forest cover has been greatly diminished due to rice farming, however, a part in the northwest of the island is actively being protected.

North Bay Island

Apart from the sandy beaches, the islands also have beautiful corals, especially on Andaman’s North Bay Island. Due to the pristine location of the islands, it is majorly known for Scuba diving, snorkelling, sea walking, and glass boat cruises. All the thrilling activities be it the water sports, seeing the coral reefs, or just soaking in the breathtaking scenery, there is much to do at the North Bay Islands. There are more activities here than on Neil Island or Havelock. This island has something for everyone, whether you are a nature lover, a serious water sports enthusiast, or a beach baby.

More to experience

Night Kayaking
The best way to enjoy such a serene and majestic place is to have some experiences that are beyond the conventional tours. Night kayaking is one such way to soak in the mesmerising natural splendour of the Andaman & Nicobar islands with lagoons, mangroves, beaches, flora and animals. It is a great way to see the bioluminescence created by phytoplankton's biological activity. Like hearing the crickets chirp, stargazing, and attempting to identify stars are all joys of the exercise. Some kayaking tours start at about sundown and visitors can choose between single and double kayaks. The most popular places to start night kayaking tours are Veer Savarkar Park in Port Blair and Havelock Ferry Ghat in Havelock.
Sea Walking
Sea walking is a unique experience that is distinct from snorkelling and scuba diving. Sea walking among the Andaman Islands' stunning coral reef fringes can be an energising experience. The sea walking adventures are overseen by a team of experienced professionals. Tourists and visitors are usually carried to sea-walking spots from the Andaman Islands' mainland, such as Port Blair. The sea walkers wear a helmet with a transparent visor that they wear on their heads as they move underwater. This is a piece of equipment that allows sea walkers to breathe regularly when underwater. It is a surreal experience, especially when you haven’t been underwater before and it surely adds a lot of respect for the natural wildlife.

Shopping in Andamans

Some of the local shops and beach markets are well-known shopping stops. They offer a variety of things from cane handicrafts to wooden decorative items. The Port Blair market has numerous items for interior decoration. You can get some of the finest legal sea shell jewellery manufacturers here. The famed Aberdeen Bazaar, Port Blair's major retail hub, is a must-see. Shelters line the perimeter, selling anything from home items to fine art to beach clothing and accessories

The cuisine of the state

Being a tropical destination, the food is refreshing and unique, just like the island. The water, which surrounds the island, has a strong influence on its culture, livelihood, and food. There isn't much here that doesn't have traces of the sea. As a result, seafood preparations dominate the menu, and the fish delights are not to be missed. The staple diet is essentially non-vegetarian. With the incoming of tourists, the island has also started offering Indian, Chinese and other cuisines. In addition, the local fruits are extremely popular in the local cuisine like mangoes, fruits, pineapple, guava etc.
